The Savannah Black Heritage Festival logo gathered inspiration from the first quilt used in the Underground Railroad quilt code. The "monkey wrench" pattern is a symbol of freedom and known as the first quilt in the quilt code system. The meaning signified it was time to gather all necessary supplies and prepare for your journey to freedom.
This year's theme is Reimagining Excellence. The Sankofa bird is one of many Adinkra symbols used to represent concepts and aphorisms of the Akan people of West Africa. Our Sankofa bird design is adorned with some of these symbols, for example the symbol Gye Nyame "accept God," and Nkyinkyimie represents toughness and selfless devotion to service.
