The Savannah Black Heritage Festival (SBHF) Committee is comprised of a demographically diverse volunteer team of community members who has been given full decision-making power by the University regarding all aspects of the festival including, but not limited to, design/implementation, fiscal management, marketing, and the formation of strategic collaborations. Committee Members include community volunteers such as professionals, both retirees and currently employed; youth, SSU faculty and staff, and festival partner representatives. The chair/festival coordinator is a community leader and retired administrator of the University who has served in this capacity since 2002. Ex-official committee members include representatives from the Mayor’s office, Department of Cultural Affairs, Savannah State University, and various partners from arts, educational and business institutions, community organizations and neighborhood associations. The festival coordinator and a part-time office administrator compose the staff. SBHF subcommittees coordinate each major festival event and report to the governing committee.
